Kimberly Dawn Hughes Professional Development Grant


This Professional Development Grant, named in honor of ACTM past president Kimberly Dawn Hughes, is intended to strengthen the quality of mathematics teaching in Arkansas.  This grant, awarded annually, will provide $1000 financial assistance to an Arkansas mathematics educator to travel to either a regional or the annual conference of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM).  See nctm.org for conference locations and dates.  

Applications due April 1 for travel to any NCTM conference within two years of the application deadline.

The recipient will be announced at the ACTM Networking Night in May.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • ACTM member for at least two years

  • Not currently on the ACTM Board

  • Willing to write a reflection on the conference experience (by responding to a post-conference questionnaire) which will appear as an article in the ACTM journal

  • Will submit receipts of conference expenses to the ACTM treasurer within two months of the conference for reimbursement up to $1000 (of expenses not already reimbursed by an employer), along with the written reflection

    PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT GRANTS ($500)

    ACTM Professional Development Grants (up to $500) provide financial assistance to Arkansas mathematics educators to attend a state, regional, or national mathematics education conference, or other professional development experiences that have a focus on mathematics education. Grants will be awarded twice a year.

    Eligibility Requirements:

    • ACTM member for at least two years
    • Not currently on ACTM Board
    • Willing to write a reflection on the PD experience which will appear in the ACTM journal
    • Will submit receipts of expenses to the ACTM treasurer within two months of the conference for reimbursement up to $500 (of expenses not already reimbursed by an employer), along with the reflection

    CLASSROOM PROJECT GRANTS ($500)

    ACTM Classroom Project Grants provide financial assistance to Arkansas mathematics educators to fund special projects for their students (up to $500).  Grants will be awarded twice a year.

    Eligibility Requirements:

    • ACTM member who is teaching at any level
    • Not currently on the ACTM Board
    • Has not been awarded a Classroom Project Grant in the past 3 years
    • Recipients will submit receipts to the ACTM treasurer prior to the deadline of the next round of applications (October 1 for spring recipients; April 1 for fall recipients).  Accompanying the receipts, the recipient will also send an engaging paragraph description of how the funds were spent and how the students were impacted, along with a photo that can be featured in the next ACTM journal to promote the Classroom Project Grant.
